Privacy Policy
The short version: your photos never leave your device. Here's the long version.
Last updated: June 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how ShrinkMyImg (“we”, “us”, “our”) handles information when you use our website at shrinkmyimg.com (the “Service”). We built ShrinkMyImg around a single principle: your images are yours. They are processed entirely on your own device and are never transmitted to, stored on, or readable by our servers — or anyone else's.
1. The headline: local-only processing
Unlike most online image tools, ShrinkMyImg does not upload your files anywhere. When you add a photo, all of the work — reading the file, converting iPhone HEIC photos, resizing, compressing, and packaging downloads — happens inside your web browser using technology built into the browser itself (the HTML Canvas API and, for HEIC photos, a decoder that runs locally on your device).
This means:
- Your photos never travel across the internet to use this Service.
- We cannot see, store, copy, or share your photos — the data never reaches us.
- Once the page has loaded, the compressor even works offline — you can disconnect from the internet and keep shrinking photos.
- When you close the browser tab, your photos and their compressed copies are gone from the page. Nothing persists on our side because nothing ever existed on our side.
2. Metadata removal (a privacy bonus)
Photos taken on phones and cameras usually carry hidden EXIF metadata: GPS coordinates of where the photo was taken, the exact date and time, and details about your device. As a side effect of how we compress images, all EXIF metadata is removed from every compressed photo. The image you download contains only the picture itself — not your location history.
3. Information we do not collect
- We do not require an account, sign-up, email address, or any registration.
- We do not collect names, contact details, or payment information (the Service is free).
- We do not receive, store, or process your image files or their contents.
- We do not collect filenames or any data derived from your images.
- We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information — we don't have it to sell.
4. Information collected automatically
4.1 Analytics
We may use Google Analytics 4 to understand, in aggregate, how the Service is used — for example, how many people visit, which pages they view, and whether compressions succeed. If analytics is enabled, the events we record are strictly non-identifying and never include your images, filenames, or image content. A typical event looks like “a compression completed, the file shrank by 78%, output format JPG”. Google Analytics may set cookies and collect your truncated IP address, browser type, and device category as described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or any standard content blocker — the Service works exactly the same with analytics blocked.
4.2 Advertising
The Service may display advertisements served by Google AdSense to keep the tool free. Ad networks may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads, including personalized ads, depending on your region and consent choices. Google's use of advertising cookies is described in Google's advertising policies. You can manage personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings. Importantly: advertisers never receive your images or anything about them — ads and image processing are completely separate; your photos stay on your device regardless.
4.3 Server logs
Like virtually every website, our hosting provider may keep standard, short-lived access logs (IP address, browser user-agent, pages requested, timestamps) for security and abuse prevention. These logs relate only to loading the website itself — never to your images, which are not transmitted.
5. Cookies
ShrinkMyImgitself does not set cookies to operate. Third-party services described above (analytics, advertising) may set their own cookies if enabled. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings without affecting the compressor's functionality.
6. Your rights under GDPR (EU/EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port personal data, and the right to object to processing. Because we do not collect or store personal data about you ourselves, in most cases there is simply no data for us to act on. For data held by third parties (Google Analytics, Google AdSense), please use the opt-out and management links in Section 4, or contact us and we will help you direct your request. Where analytics or advertising require a lawful basis, we rely on legitimate interest in operating a free service, or on your consent where required by your jurisdiction.
7. Your rights under CCPA/CPRA (California)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information is collected, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. ShrinkMyImg does not sell or share personal information as defined by the CCPA, and we do not collect personal information beyond the third-party services described above. To exercise any CCPA right, contact us at hello@nullweb.net — we will never discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.
8. Children's privacy
The Service is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through one of the third-party services, please contact us and we will help address it.
9. Data security
The strongest security measure we offer is architectural: your images never leave your device, so they cannot be intercepted in transit to us, breached on our servers, or mishandled by our staff — none of those places ever hold your data. The website itself is served over HTTPS to ensure the code you run is the code we published.
10. Third-party links
Our site links to other NullWeb tools and a small number of external sites. This policy covers only shrinkmyimg.com. Other sites — including other NullWeb tools — have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to read them.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date. Material changes will be highlighted on the site. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
12. Contact us
Questions about this policy or your privacy? Email us at hello@nullweb.net or use the contact page. We're happy to explain anything in plain language.
